Atlantic Salmon Fishing in Eastern Canada: How The King’s Men Can Catch The King of Fish Ben Carmichael is an avid fly fisherman, writer, photographer, and videographer. He is the founder and editor of New England on the Fly, a website dedicated to fly fishing in New England through original high-quality photographs, videos, stories, and gear reviews. His talk will be about demystifying the majestic sport of Atlantic salmon fishing, with a focus on Eastern Canada. Ben has been fortunate to chase Atlantic salmon his entire life. Since catching his first, a 20-lb beauty, in Canada at the age of seven, he has returned to Quebec yearly. He has also chased salmon in Scotland and Norway. This fall, he published a story in The Drake magazine about striped bass and Atlantic salmon on Canada’s storied Gaspé peninsula, and had another story published this winter about Hooke, a tribe of avid fly fisherman whose videos, many featuring Atlantic salmon, have taken Eastern Canada by storm. He has also edited a few books on topics related to Atlantic salmon and fly fishing, including Ron Swanson’s Grand Cascapedia Giants and Hoagy Carmichael’s The Grand Cascapedia River: A History. He has written for other outlets on fly fishing and environmental issues, including The Angler’s Club Journal, a collection of pieces for the Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum, On Earth, Print, and elsewhere. He is on the board of the Miramichi Salmon Association (MSA), is a member of The Angler’s Circle with the American Museum of Fly Fishing (AMFF), The Angler’s Club of New York (ACNY), and The Boston Fly Casters. He lives in Concord, MA, but is always dreaming of building a cabin on a river. For more, check out New England on the Fly
